I have a few fave artists of the past…De Kooning, Schiele, Klimt…  When I started exploring the medium, I thought it’d be a cool challenge to do works “in the style” of these artists…to test the medium AND to develop my own technical abilities.  As many know–art is not really about being able to draw/paint…it’s about being able to SEE. To observe something (physically or imagined) notbjustcas it is, but as a series of shapes, tones, light, shadow…

Challenges like these always help me to hone that skill…you begin to understand the anatomy of a piece…also helps to develop “process”.

Later I joined an art group…”iphone/ipad painting a week, where one of the weekly challenges was to do a tribute to a specified artist.  I discovered many great masters this way as well.

All tributes below were fingerpainted on an iPhone 3G.
